SCAN (Scientific Content Analysis) will quickly solve every case for you by analyzing the statements you receive from subjects.  SCAN gets the whole truth from the subject's own words.  

The LSI SCAN course provides three days of intensive training that will show you how to interpret every statement from beginning to end.  In addition, each student receives:  a 230-page workbook of lecture notes and guided reading; the VIEW Questionnaire with basic instructions for its use; a CD-ROM of SCAN guidelines, case studies, and at-home exercises (including: the SCAN Workshop Guidebook, the VIEW Guidebook, and the LSI SCAN Newsletter Anthology); and access to the LSI technical support hotline.

The LSI SCAN Newsletter Anthology

The LSI SCAN Newsletter provides further discussion and examples of the SCAN technique.  The anthology includes all issues of the LSI SCAN newsletter from 1986 to 1993 - the equivalent of 500 pages, printed in condensed type.  The LSI SCAN Newsletter Anthology demonstrates the basic principles of SCAN through the analysis of examples and case studies.

The LSI VIEW Guidebook

The VIEW Questionnaire is an effective screening process for specific-suspicion cases, based on the SCAN technique.  VIEW [Verbal Inquiry - the Effective Witness] presents the SCAN technique in a ready-to-use form.  

The VIEW Guidebook includes:  

   extensive information on use and analysis of the VIEW Questionnaire
   detailed instructions for the evaluation process
   designs of the VIEW Questionnaire for a large variety of cases
   a Workshop section composed of case studies with their solutions
   a computer diskette (IBM compatible format) including all of the available designs of the questionnaire.  The designs on the diskette are in ready-to-use format of WordPerfect (can be used with any IBM compatible version of WordPerfect or Microsoft Word) and ASCII (can be used with any other IBM compatible word processing program).

The SCAN Audio-Cassette Seminar Kit - available as mp3 files

The SCAN audio-cassette seminar presents an introduction to analysis of statements using the SCAN technique.  The seminar kit includes 6 hours of lectures on audio-cassettes plus a booklet of lecture notes and guided reading.

  
The SCAN Video/DVD Library- NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE

The SCAN Video/DVD Library presents a new, easy way to learn the SCAN technique - at your own pace, and at your own location.  The video/DVD sessions can be viewed individually or by a group.

The program begins with:  "Introduction to SCAN" (90 min), "The Strategy of the Interview" (90 min), and "Principles of SCAN Analysis" (3 hrs).  These sessions take the student step-by-step through the actual analysis of statements, with detailed instructions on developing the statement using the SCAN technique.  

The three introductory sessions are then followed by one or more topics from the SCAN Crime Solutions Video/DVD Library (3 hrs each).  These sessions demonstrate the effective use of SCAN in interpreting the statements of suspects, witnesses, and/or victims to solve the following cases:

REASON Command Center

REASON Command Center is the perfect tool for writing SCAN reports!  With REASON Command Center, writing a SCAN report is as easy as clicking on a drop-down menu.  

REASON Command Center (REport Automated SOlution Notes) is a collection of over 650 report comments (10% more than the original REASON diskette), named by topic and arranged in an easy-to-use directory tree on a CD ROM.  With a few mouse clicks, the SCAN analyst can "zero in" on the appropriate comments for the situation, preview the comments and include them in the SCAN report being prepared.

The CD ROM also includes the full text of the SCAN Workshop Guidebook - a very detailed manual (over 200 pages) which guides the SCAN analyst step-by-step in analyzing statements and producing a SCAN report.  The Guidebook also includes a practice section composed of case studies with their solutions.

All material on the CD ROM is in MS Word format.  This option is available only for students of the LSI Course, who are already familiar with the SCAN process.


  
LOGIC Analysis Software- NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE

LOGIC (Linguistic Observation and Guide to Inquiry by Computer)  makes it easier to SCAN statements and write SCAN reports, by combining the SCAN technique with your computer's capabilities.  This program (accompanied by a detailed 138-page manual) will use your computer's capabilities to supervise the analysis so no point would be disregarded.  The program includes:  analysis macros, report comments, and on-screen analysis tips.  The program is designed for use with Microsoft Word 97 (and all newer versions of Word).  Older versions of LOGIC are available for use with WordPerfect 5.0 or 5.1 DOS, or with Microsoft Word 6.0 or 7.0 for Windows.  This option is available only for students of the LSI Course, who are already familiar with the SCAN process.

  
The SCAN Workshop Guidebook

The SCAN Workshop Guidebook is a very detailed manual (over 200 pages) which guides the SCAN analyst step-by-step in analyzing statements and producing a SCAN report.  The Guidebook also includes a practice section composed of case studies with their solutions; and a new development in the SCAN technique: REASON (REport Automated SOlution Notes) - more than 500 notes arranged by topic in the Guidebook and on an accompanying computer diskette, to be placed in any report as needed.  The diskette can be used with any IBM-compatible word processing program.  This option is available only for students of the LSI Course, who are already familiar with the SCAN process.

  
The LSI SCAN CD-ROM - a "SCAN Encyclopedia"

The LSI SCAN CD-ROM combines all of the currently available material on SCAN in one unit, in an easily-accessible format.  This makes it possible to utilize your computer to search through the complete collection of SCAN material, in order to find specific rules, case studies, or examples.  

The LSI SCAN CD-ROM includes:

   the complete workbook used in the LSI Basic Course on SCAN, with all of the "write-in" rules already inserted.  The user of the CD-ROM can view the material on screen, or print out an additional copy of the workbook for personal use, in order to organize notes from the course.

   extended reading material which is not incorporated into the LSI Basic Course. During the years the reading assignments in the course have changed.  The large capacity of the CD-ROM enables us to include all of the reading material, including material from previous years.

   the LSI SCAN Newsletter Anthology, the VIEW Guidebook, and the SCAN Workshop Guidebook.

   all of the articles from the LSI website.

   the KGB Interrogation Room picture in a computerized form, enabling the student to use it as wallpaper in the Windows environment.

The material on the LSI SCAN CD-ROM is provided in three IBM-compatible formats:  for use with Microsoft Word; for use with Wordperfect; and text format, to enable use with a variety of word processing programs.

SCAN Kits - Putting It All Together

The SCAN educational products described above can be combined in a variety of ways to provide a more thorough knowledge of the SCAN technique.  The various packages are offered at a discounted price, and an additional discount is available to SCAN students who purchase SCAN educational products while attending the course.  This enables the students to increase their in-depth knowledge of the SCAN technique, to review the material, and to share the information with their co-workers.
